Fritz Lang's vision developed early and had a consistency of design and a visual power that are unique in world cinema. His films' eerie lighting effects, evocative compositions, unrelenting suspense, and narrative economy incorporated Minimalist and Expressionist techniques to enlist viewers' imaginations in evoking wonder, horror, and dread. Lang’s infatuation with the darker aspects of human nature led him to pioneer the film noir genre of the 1940s and 1950s.
